Projects

Farine Shed Rehab

This was the first developed by NGCDI, at a cost of US$18,519. It was funded by the Social Investment Fund in 2009, and aimed at undertaking a series of training courses in Project Writing, Effective Communication, Organizational Behaviour, Financial Management, among others, after which our organization would be tasked with implementing and supervising and supervising a small community project.

The objective for choosing the Farine Shed Rehabilitation project was to provide a cleaner and safer working environment with access to water for cassava farine producers, thus ensuring continuation of their livelihoods.

The project was finished on time and on budget. It continues to serve the community during the harvesting of the local cassava crop. At other times cassava is brought in from St. Vincent to be processed at the shed.

Paget Farm Community Library

This library project was carried out at a cost of US$35,616. It was funded by the Government of Australia in 2011 and was aimed at providing community access to reading and video material. A derelict building, which formerly served as the first health clinic in the community of Paget Farm, and later as a community post office until the 1980s, was converted to what is now the Paget Farm Community Library.

This project was completed on time and within budget. It was well received by the residents of the community. School children utilise the facility extensively and especially the internet and Wi-Fi services which were added by the National Telecommunications Regulatory Committee (NTRC). The project is particularly beneficial to children from economically disadvantaged households who cannot afford home internet access to facilitate their educational pursuits. It is staffed through the SVG’s Youth Empowerment Services.

Union Vale Water Project

This project costing US$64,025 was funded by Grenadine Partnership Fund in 2011. It was aimed at providing 20,000 gallons of water storage capacity to the community for periods of drought. Having undergone two recent severe periods of drought, this water system was of tremendous value to residents of that community as well as the Police Station, the Port Elizabeth Public Washroom and Showers, and other needy persons. The project was finished on time and on budget. The water quality is constantly being monitored by the Central Water and Sewerage Authority (CWSA).

High School Whiteboard Project

This project, which was undertaken in August 2012 at a cost of EC$2,370, served to eliminate the old chalk blackboards and the problems (chalk dust and allergies) that they presented to the school population at the Bequia Community High School. It was funded by Grenadines Partnership Fund. All classes had their blackboards replaced for the beginning of the new school year in September 2012.

Port Elizabeth Washroom and Showers

This project was developed at a cost of US$31,108, with funding by Grenadines Partnership Fund, with in-kind contributions by the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. It began in October 2013 and was completed in April 2014 in time for the Easter Regatta Festival. The project aimed at providing much needed toilet and bath facilities for the general public, thus improving sanitation and public convenience for locals and visitors in the central business area of the town.

NGCDI received significant private sector support in the implementation of this project. The facility is self-sufficient, employing two full-time staff during the open tourist season, and operates on a staff shift system during the off-season.

This project was undertaken at a cost of US$7,407.00 and was funded by Grenadines Partnership Fund.

Women's Empowerment

To encourage the growth of women-run small businesses on the island of Bequia this provides assistance for amounts not exceeding EC$5,000.00.
